From Emission Source to Ground-Level Impact

Air quality criteria are written in terms of concentrations at receptors — neighboring properties, sensitive land uses, monitoring zones — not emissions at the source. The gap between those two points is where dispersion modeling operates. Using AERMOD and validated meteorological datasets, we simulate how your facility's emissions — gases, particulate, odorous compounds — behave across the range of conditions that characterize your site. The output is a quantitative, defensible impact assessment a regulator can evaluate and you can act on.

For authorization under REAFIE or a federal screening, a dispersion study is frequently a mandatory component of the technical file. Done well, it closes the air-quality question conclusively. Done poorly, it invites revision requests that delay your project by months.

Regulatory reviewers are familiar with AERMOD outputs. What distinguishes a credible study is the quality of the input assumptions — emission rates, stack parameters, building downwash characterization, meteorological data selection — and the rigor of the interpretation. We prepare complete dispersion reports in accordance with MELCCFP guidelines and federal requirements, with clear documentation of methodology and transparent treatment of uncertainty. If your results indicate exceedances, we don't stop at the finding — we identify the source contribution, evaluate mitigation scenarios, and help you optimize your emission control strategy before submission.

Dispersion modeling is one of the few environmental disciplines that can be executed to full technical standard from a distance. Emission-source data, site coordinates, and meteorological records are sufficient to build a complete study. That lets us serve clients across Quebec and Canada — and, where warranted, internationally — without the cost and delay of on-site mobilization, while still delivering site-specific results. Location doesn't constrain rigor here; it only changes the meteorological dataset.
